Getting started is sometimes the hardest part for genealogists. It should not be. There are all kinds of items in your house or a relative's home that can be loaded with information. These items may have the information you need to get a jump-start on your research.
Do not forget that you are important too. You should be included in your genealogy.
*One thing many new genealogists do that gets them into trouble is that they try to jump back too quickly. Each ancestor needs to be proven and if you jump back too fast without that proof, you may be tracing the wrong person. So do it right the first time and research each person from your dad to your ancestor's on down your family tree, one at a time, methodically, moving backward without skipping a person.
